Burton Thronson, age 82, Gary, Minnesota, died Saturday, October 7, 2006, in Bridges Medical Center, Ada, Minnesota.
Burton O. Thronson was born July 27, 1924 in Gary, Minnesota, the son of Bennie and Olga (Eidum) Thronson. He was raised on the family farm and attended grade school near his home. At the age of 15 his father died and Burton took on the responsibility of helping his mother on the farm. On May 13, 1950, Burton was united in marriage to Ardelle Halland in Ada, Minnesota. They made their home on his family's farm. A short time later they purchased the farm from his mother and continued to live there for nearly 40 years. Over the years they expanded the size of the farm and also built up a good dairy herd. When time permitted, Burton would work for his brother-in-law in his construction business and also in the Gary potato house. In 1989, they moved into Gary and have made their home there since. Burton continued to remain active on the farm as long as his health permitted.
Burton loved to play cards, mostly whist and pinochle, took a few trips over the years and enjoyed cutting wood. He loved spending time with his large family and the annual family deer hunt.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ardelle of Gary, MN; three daughters, Barbara (Gary) Kjono and Lynette Prestegaard both of Fargo, ND and Kimberly (Arnie Campbell) Jenson of Gary, MN; four sons, David (Rita) Mahnomen, MN, Byron (Lori), Bradley (Elena ) and Dalen (Belinda) all of Gary, MN, two sisters Palma Gunnufson of Gary, MN and Annabelle (Ray) Ponser of Chula Vista, CA and 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Burton was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bud Jenson and an infant daughter that was still born. Also preceding him in death were two grandsons, Joshua and Blake and one brother, Palmer Oliver.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday Oct. 11th at 10:00 AM in the Gary Lutheran Church, Gary, MN. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 10 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service starting at 7:00 PM also in the church. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff McCracken with Alden Anderson serving as organist and Linda Jaeger as soloist. Pallbearers will be all seven of his children with his grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. Interment will be on the family lot in the St. Petri Lutheran Cemetery near Gary, MN
