Burl E. Bellanger, age 52, of Mahnomen, MN, died Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Mahnomen Health Center Nursing Home from diabetes related health problems and end stage renal disease.
Burl Edward Bellanger, the son of Donald and Eunice (Snetsinger) Bellanger, was born on February 12, 1965 in Mahnomen. Burl was baptized and later confirmed his faith at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen. As a young boy, he attended St. Michael's Catholic School then graduated from Mahnomen High School. Burl attended Thief River Falls Technical College for aviation mechanics for two years then continued his education at Detroit Lakes Technical College where he studied welding. Burl never married and made his home in Mahnomen his entire life, other than his time away at college. Over the years, Burl worked several jobs in the area. In 1991, he began working at the Shooting Star Casino, where he was currently employed as a Security Shift Supervisor. Burl had battled with health issues for several years. In keeping with his quiet and easy going personality, he never complained, even while undergoing dialysis three days a week for the past seven and a half years. Due to his weakened state, Burl entered the Mahnomen Nursing Home just days before his death.
Burl was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, even if he took some slack for it. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, and 4-wheeling. Burl liked hanging out with friends, gambling, and working on electronics and his computer. Burl was a First Responded in Mahnomen for many years. Being a very private and humble man Burl would never brag about awards or recognition he received. His family was very proud that he was the recipient of an award for saving choking and heart attack victims…to which Burl responded "just part of my job." Burl especially cherished his family and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and their families. He also liked spending time with his brother's dog, Abby.
Burl is survived by his mother, Eunice Bellanger of Mahnomen; one brother, DeWayne "Toby" Bellanger of Mahnomen; two sisters: Lori Anderson of Fargo, ND, and Dana (Loren) Laudenbach of St Augusta, MN; three aunts, one great aunt, eight nieces and nephews, and thirteen great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, and two uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 5 pm until 7 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm, at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen.
