Bruce Johnson, 76, of Caledonia, ND died Thursday afternoon, October 5, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND, surrounded by family, after a month long battle with pneumonia.

Bruce was born in Crookston, MN, on August 18, 1941, oldest of 4 children born to Earl and Alice (Opperud) Johnson. He grew up on the family farm east of Nielsville, MN, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church.  He attended grade school in Nielsville and graduated from Halstad High School in 1959.  Bruce served in the Army from 1961 – 64.

In 1965, Bruce married Marilyn Larson of Climax, and they had two children, Michael and Kimberly.

Bruce married Pam Adkins in 1976.  He has lived in several different states over the years, but has resided in Caledonia for 23 years.  Following his lung cancer in 1986, Bruce has devoted his life to helping people improve their health.  For the past 21 years he has been an avid gardener, planting and tending a very large garden.   Bruce didn't know how to say no when it came to helping people – he would always go over and above to help anyone.  He loved his family and friends with his whole heart.   His high school motto was "Don't Fence Me In" and he lived his life that way.  Bruce will be greatly missed by his family and those he called friends.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 41 years, Pam, and his daughter Kimberly Johnson of Mound, MN; as well as 4 grandchildren: Heather, Kenny, Zeph & Brooke Johnson.  He is also survived by his sister, Sonia (Jerry) Hovet of Mesa, AZ, brothers, Brian (Kathy) Johnson of Grand Forks, ND, and Brent (Anissa) Johnson, of Tucson, AZ, mother-in-law, Darlene Adkins of Shelly, brother-in-law Mike (Amy) Adkins and 10 nieces and nephews. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Earl & Alice, his son Michael, and father-in-law Bud Adkins.

Funeral: 11:00 Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Church, Shelly, MN.

Visitation: 5:00PM to 7:00PM on Monday October 9, 2017, with a 6:30PM prayer service at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Halstad, MN.

Burial: Caledonia, ND Cemetery.
