Obituary

Bruce Christensen, age 72, of Twin Valley, MN passed away unexpectedly at Sanford Hospital on Monday, April 30, 2018 surrounded by family.

Bruce was born to Donald and Bernice (Peterson) Christensen on March 1, 1946 in Ada, MN. He graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1964. After graduating from Interstate Business College, he enlisted in the Air Force.  He was stationed in Goosebay Labrador, Newfoundland, where he was a Supply Specialist for the Air Rescue Recovery Squadron. Following four years of service and an honorable military discharge, Bruce returned to the family farm and started raising pigs. He received the Outstanding Young Farmer award from the local Jaycees early in his career. In 1984, he began working as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in April of 2010.

Bruce was a kind and soft-spoken man, who loved life on the farm. He was quite the gardener and also enjoyed hunting, fishing, toy collecting and never came across a jigsaw puzzle he couldn't solve. He loved spending time with his family and was always up for a game of cards. Bruce was also an avid bowler, serving as the local league's treasurer for many years and even competed in tournaments in Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Florida.

Throughout his life, Bruce was an active member of the Twin Valley community. He served for many years as treasurer of the St. Olaf congregation until it closed. At the time of his passing, Bruce was Commander of the Twin Valley American Legion, Treasurer of the Fossum Township Board, and Chairman of the St. Olaf Cemetery Association.

Bruce was dearly loved by his family and had a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews, all of whom will greatly miss their Uncle Bruce.

Bruce is survived by his sisters, Donna (Dennis) Johnson of Becker, MN, and Janice (Mike) Syverson of Tulaby Lake, MN; his brothers, Donald (Mary) Christensen of Stillwater, MN, and Michael Christensen of Twin Valley, MN; his aunt and uncle Allan and Lorraine Peterson of Twin Valley, MN; his aunts, Doris Wiger of Fargo, ND, Marcy Peterson of Fargo, ND, and Ruth Christensen of Eustis, FL; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and one great-great nephew.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, John and Martha Christensen and Carl and Nora Peterson; and his niece, Tabatha Christensen.
