Watch Bruce's Funeral

Bruce Alan Adams, age 62, of Waubun, MN, passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 6, 2022, from complications of Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.

Bruce was born February 9, 1959, to Claryce (Kjolberg) and Louis "Buddy" Adams of rural Waubun, MN.  Bruce and his four siblings spent their childhood days growing up and causing trouble with several neighborhood families, mainly the Ingebrigtsons and Fagres.  Bruce attended and graduated from Waubun High School in 1977.  In the spring of that year, he started working alongside his dad, Buddy, on the Canadian Pacific Railroad as a laborer.  When Bruce came home on the weekends, he would spend his free time pursuing his long-time crush, Cindy Lynn Benson.  After several years and a couple of proposals, Cindy finally agreed to marry Bruce in April of 1985.  Shortly after getting married, Bruce and Cindy moved to their "forever" home on McCraney Lake and started to make it their own.  They spent much of their younger years together fishing, hunting and hanging out with friends.  Together in 1988, they welcomed their first daughter, Megan Elizabeth, and Bruce was thrilled to be a dad.  On the weekends, he would make sure to take the "morning shift" and get all the snuggles he missed during the week when he was gone "working on the railroad".  Over the next several years, Bruce and Cindy excitedly welcomed two more children, Zachery Louis and Lindsey Nicole.  Bruce continued to work for the CP Railroad for most of his working career as a machine operator.  While he spent the weekdays away from home, his family would eagerly await his homecoming each Friday night.  After he would share his supper with the (already fed) kids, he could be found outside throwing a football or getting in the boat to go fishing with them.  Bruce had a love for the lake and for being outdoors.  In his prime years, he would split the firewood with one swing of his maul and find the hidden McCraney Lake Walleyes without trouble.  Bruce spent his first 30 years of work along-side his many friends with the CP Railroad , where he will be forever known as "Batman".  He spent the remainder of his railroad career (42 years total) with a smaller unit, The Northern Plains Railroad, as their machine operator and friend.  He was skilled and precise at his job and they even tried to call him out of retirement.  Bruce was very proud to have spent his life providing for his family, but very excited to finally enjoy his home upon retirement in 2019.

The past several years had been hard on Bruce as his body had begun to weaken due to Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.  Things he once loved had become very hard to enjoy; so he found new things to enjoy.  Bruce loved to sit in his chair on the deck and listen to the loons.  He enjoyed summer nights and bonfires with family and friends.  Bruce loved holding grandbabies and cuddling kittens.  He was quite good at wii golfing, "nickels", "654" and loved an old western.  All who knew Bruce will always remember how he enjoyed a good homecooked meal.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Cindy Lynn Adams; two daughters, Megan (Greg) Pickrain of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Lindsey Adams of Waubun; one son, Zachery Adams also of Waubun; two grandchildren, Hazel and Jerome Adams (age 1) of Waubun; his siblings, Brian (Linda) Adams of Waubun, Judy (Brian) Mathson of Minot, ND, Holly Palm (Jim Pederson) of Roseau, MN, and Tim Adams of St. Paul, MN.  Bruce also has many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Bruce is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Claryce Adams; an infant brother, Todd Adams, who was stillborn; a niece, Tanya (Mathson) Ginther; brother-in-law, Wayne Palm; his father-in-law, Jerome Benson and many other loved ones and friends.

Although Bruce is no longer with us in body, we know he is our "Spirit in the Sky".
