Bradley Houglum, age 58, of Waubun, MN, died Sunday, May 15, 2016, in Sanford Health, Fargo.
Bradley Allan was born December 7, 1957, the son of Allan and Betty (Olson) Houglum. He was raised on a farm West of Waubun and graduated high school with the class of 1977. Following high school, Brad attended Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech for auto mechanics. On November 24, 1979, Brad was united in marriage to Kim Christensen. They made their home in Waubun. He worked as a mechanic at various places including Grover Lindberg Truck Stop in Detroit Lakes and Stangle's Repair in Waubun. Kim died in December of 1985, and Brad moved to the farm. He was blessed with a daughter, Kaela, in 1989, and later a granddaughter, Mya. He farmed alongside his parents and helped to care for them as they aged. When they retired from farming, Brad returned to mechanics. He continued to live on the farm and work at various places until his health declined and he was forced to retire early.
Although soft spoken and reserved, Brad was a very caring individual with a resilient attitude throughout everything. He loved children and going on picnic outings. Even though he was a mechanic by trade his passion was farming. However, Brad also enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on older vehicles. He made many doll houses equipped with furniture and his favorite muscle car was the Ford Mustang.
Brad is survived by his daughter, Kaela (Nate) Krause, and granddaughter, Mya, all of Detroit Lakes, MN, and a sister, Bonnie (Bill) Corwin of Brooklyn Park, MN; mother and father-in-law, Laura and Merlin Christensen of Waubun; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Kim.
