Watch Bonnie's Funeral

Bonnie Mehr, age 67, of Mahnomen, MN, died Sunday, August 15, 2021, at her home.

Bonnie Jean Hendrickson was born May 22, 1954, in Mahnomen, the daughter of Clifford and Gladys (Loraas) Hendrickson.  She grew up in Mahnomen where she attended school, graduating from Mahnomen High School with the Class of 1972.  Following high school, Bonnie entered the work force and began working for Swift's in Detroit Lakes, MN.  After a couple years, she began working at the liquor store in Mahnomen along with some extra shifts at the Dairy Whirl to save money for her upcoming wedding.  On August 19, 1978, Bonnie was united in marriage to Michael Mehr at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.  Soon after, the young couple moved to Detroit Lakes for a year followed by a move to Moorhead, MN.  While living in Moorhead, Bonnie worked at Silverline doing factory sewing for boats and snowmobiles.  Mike and Bonnie then returned to Mahnomen to put down roots.  She was employed by the Mahnomen Hospital in the kitchen and laundry departments.  Mike and Bonnie welcomed their only child, Samantha, on January 3, 1986.  Bonnie continued to work at the hospital until hurting her back in 1993 and was forced to resign.  However, she was able to go to work in the check cashing department at the Shooting Star Casino for several years before cleaning at Valley View Commons, Jefferson Apartments and Park Terrace Apartments until her retirement.

Bonnie was a fun-loving people person who enjoyed the simple things in life.  She liked camping, fishing, canoeing, and going for pontoon rides.  Many hours were spent visiting and entertaining friends and family.  However, her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandson, Lucas.  Bonnie was a member of First Lutheran Church and the ladies aid.  She also held memberships with the Mahnomen Legion Auxiliary and the Mahnomen Hospital Auxiliary.

Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Samantha (David) Knakmuhs and grandson, Lucas; three brothers: Ronnie Hendrickson, Mark (Jeanine) Hendrickson, both of Waubun, and Roger (Shirley) Hendrickson of Sauk Rapids, MN; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; parents; three sisters: Sherry, Janet, and Janice; two brothers, Clair and Steven; and many aunts and uncles.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen, MN. Open Visitation will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 5:00 -7:00 pm at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
