Remembering the life of Bill Turpin

Bill Turpin, 54, of Sylvan Township, died Monday, August 13, 2007.

William Nelson Turpin "Nebogeshig" meaning Night Sky, was born April 5, 1953 in White Earth, MN, the son of William and Phyllis (Bunker) Turpin. He graduated from Mahnomen High School and on February 15, 1974 was united in marriage to Cindy Sanders. Later that year, he enlisted in the US Army. Bill was stationed in Oklahoma and served in Germany for 1 ½ years. As a Recon Specialist, Bill was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for service to his country. Following his honorable discharge, Bill went to work for Viking Gas and was a senior technician. Bill worked at Viking Gas for over 30 years. On April 4, 1987, Bill was united in marriage to Linda Moody in Milaca.

Bill was an obsessive Packer fan. He enjoyed music and playing the guitar and played in a band together with his father. He also enjoyed racing and riding snowmobiles with his family. Bill was a practical joker and loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. He appreciated any time he could spend around a bonfire and he loved to go boating with Linda and Katie. Bill enjoyed skydiving and was also a licensed scuba diver.

Bill will be missed by his wife, Linda; his daughter, Katie Turpin, of Pillager, MN; his son, Jamie Turpin, of Borup, MN; his daughter, Ashley Scott, of Naytahwaush, MN; his mom, Phyllis; his sisters, Bev Turner, Gayle Turpin, Cheryl Gettel, Corrine Bellefueille, Teri Gieseke, and Lori Bailey; four grandchildren, Taija Turpin, Acacia Scott, Amaija Kier, and Aliya Kier; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his father on April 17, 2005; two nieces, Billie Jo Straub and Sheri Turner; and one nephew, Justin.
