Watch Bev's Funeral Here

Beverly Hovde, age 88, of Twin Valley, MN, died peacefully at Sunnyside Care Center in Lake Park, MN, on May 22, 2026. Bev was born in West Fargo, ND, on March 29, 1938, to Oscar and Blenda (Olman) Samshal. She grew up in Twin Valley and graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1956, where she had the opportunity to pursue her passions for cheerleading, home economics and choral music. On January 5, 1957, she married the love of her life, David Hovde, also from Twin Valley. The young couple moved to Lincoln, NE, where David was stationed in the United States Air Force. During that time, they welcomed three children — Rhonda, Stewart and Steven. Following David's service in the Air Force, the couple lived in Detroit Lakes, MN, Crookston, MN, and Moorhead, MN, before settling in Twin Valley for the remainder of their lives.

Bev devoted herself to her husband, children, extended family, and church community. She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, participating in women's circles, Bible studies, hospitality, and her special love — singing in the choir. As a busy mother of three children, she was always there for them at sporting events, concerts, and other school and church activities.

After her children were grown, and following the death of her husband, Bev took a job working in production for the local newspaper, The Twin Valley Times. She and her husband, David, had been previous owners and publishers of the paper. She thoroughly enjoyed the work and satisfaction of helping with each issue until she retired.

Throughout her life, Bev loved gathering with extended family on holidays and special occasions. Her cooking and baking skills made those gatherings extra special. She especially loved being Mom, Aunt, Grandma, and Great-Grandma. At any given gathering, she would have a baby or two, or a toddler or two, on her lap! She took great joy in her kids, all of her nieces and nephews, and was blessed with three grandchildren — Hailee, Zachary and John — and one great-granddaughter, Demi.

Bev also took great joy over the years in cheering on her favorite sports teams, especially the NDSU Bison, but also the Twins, the Vikings, and the Timberwolves.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Hovde; sisters, Janice Peterick and Marlene Hall; brothers, Milan Samshal and Ervin Samshal; sisters-in-law, LaVern Samshal and DeeAnn Samshal; brothers-in-law, John Peterick and Wayne Hall; parents, Oscar and Blenda Samshal; father-in-law, Ingvald Hovde; mother-in-law, Clarice Hovde.

She is survived by her sister, Helen (Roy) Pinske; daughter, Rhonda (John) Degelau; son, Stewart (Kristi) Hovde; son, Steven Hovde; granddaughter, Hailee (Erik) Softing; grandson, Zachary Hovde; grandson, John Degelau; great-granddaughter, Demi Softing; and many nieces and nephews.
