Beverly Chounard, age 71, of Twin Valley, MN died Thursday, November 22, 2012 in Sanford Health, Fargo, with her family by her side after enduring several years with COPD.

Beverly Jane Hilda Orwald was born March 12, 1941, the daughter of Arthur and Emma (Peterson) Orwald in Twin Valley. Beverly grew up and attended grades 1 thru 11 in Twin Valley, later earning her G.E.D. She was baptized and confirmed her faith in Zion Lutheran Church. While in school, Bev was involved in many extra-curricular activities including band and chorus. At the age of 15, Bev played clarinet in the band, "Joe and the Twin Valley Rhythmaires", a career she continued for several years playing in various bands in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Bev was united in marriage to Lawrence (Curly) Nelson on March 29, 1958. To this union, three children were born: Terri, Loretta and Scott. The couple made their home in the Fargo-Moorhead area. On April 4, 1972 Bev married Roy Z. Chounard in Rapid City, SD. They lived in the Detroit Lakes and surrounding communities. Bev and Roy formed the band called "Roy's Country Pride" which performed nearly 20 years in the Detroit Lakes area. In 1990 they operated the Flyway Store on Height of Land Lake for three years and the Headwaters Country Store in 1995-1996. Their final venture before retiring was the Snellman Convenience Store in Snellman, MN from 1997 to 2005. Six years ago, Bev and Roy retired and moved to Twin Valley, where they currently reside.

Bev will always be remembered for her love of country music. Singing and playing in a band was her life. She loved spending time with family and friends and also enjoyed her house pets, the cats and dogs, as well as watching the squirrels, birds and caring for any stray cat that appeared. Bev's other favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking, antiquing and just going cruising to enjoy the outdoors.

Beverly is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Roy Chounard of Twin Valley, MN; children, Terri (Rick)Johnson of Hubbard, OR, Loretta (Tom) Wiebolt of Mahnomen, MN, Scott (Monica Sevigny) Nelson of Fisher, MN, John (Shannon) Chounard of Ulen, MN, Roy (Julie) Chounard of Ulen, MN, Renee Galster of Moorhead, MN, Mike Belden of Mpls, MN; 8 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gladys Manning of Ada, MN, Norma Bentley of Bremerton, WA, Maryann (Pete) Fennern of Twin Valley, Dorothy Miller of Fargo, ND and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Memorial Service was held on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, Twin Valley. A Time of Gathering was one hour prior to the service at the Anderson Funeral Home. Officiating wasPastor Anne Pairan.
