Obituary

Beulah Mack, age 96 of Mahnomen, MN, died Monday, April 18, 2011 at Mahnomen Health Center-Nursing Home in Mahnomen.

Beulah was born September 30, 1914 in Beltrami, MN, the daughter of Albert and Amy (Gullickson) Ogard. Beulah grew up in Ada, MN, and graduated as the class Valedictorian. Shortly after high school, Beulah was united in marriage to Harvey Mack in Crookston, MN. The couple made their home in Ada until moving to Mahnomen in 1940. While living in Mahnomen, together they endured several business endeavors including: owning the Our Own Hardware Store, building a laundromat, operating a trucking business, farming, a truck leasing business and Mack's Implement Shop, just to name a few. Throughout the years, Beulah was a key element in the day to day operations of these businesses. Not only was she visible to help the patrons, she also worked diligently as a bookkeeper, wife and mother. Harvey and Beulah were blessed with two sons, Richard and Darrel. In 1952, the family moved just east of Mahnomen. Around the mid 1980's, Harvey and Beulah retired, but kept plenty busy around the farm. Harvey died in 1991 and Beulah continued to live on the farm until recently when she moved into the Mahnomen Health Center.

Hard working, active, kind and sincere are all words that describe Beulah. She enjoyed going to senior meals, an occasional trip to the casino and being outdoors. She loved mowing the lawn, planting a garden and tending to her many flower beds. Beulah also worked different word and number puzzles that kept her 96 years young, which gave her the opportunity to have great-great grandchildren and a span of five generations! She was a long time member of First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen.

Beulah is survived by her sons, Richard of Missoula, MT, and Darrel (Patricia) of Orting, WA; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl and Loyal Ogard; one sister, Elsie Schanzen and a grandson, Rick Mack.
