Betty Krauter, 86, (born Elizabeth Catherine Kathrein) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 26, 2016, surrounded by her children at the Benedictine Care Community, Ada, MN. Betty was born on July 15, 1929 in New England, North Dakota, where she was raised and attended school. At the age of 18 she moved to Williston, North Dakota where she worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital. She married Peter Robert Krauter October 26, 1948 in New England at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Betty & Pete purchased the Gamble's Hardware Store in Ada in 1961, which later became Krauter's Hardware Hank. She worked side by side with Pete for 36 years until they retired in 1997.

She was the loving mother of 5 children: Sharon Marie (deceased, age 2 months), Cheryl Ann Wilkins (husband, Mel – Cincinnati), Audrey Marie Gerhardt (husband, Alan – Minnetonka), David John Krauter (wife, Jan – Fargo), and Sandra Kay Stene (husband, Roger – Ada). She was grandmother to 9 grandchildren (Amber & Ryan (Addison) Wilkins; Madeline Gerhardt & Ashlee (Craig) Burmaster; Jordan, Devin & Courtney Krauter; Abby (Dusty) Bushie & Andrew Stene) and 7 great grandchildren (Poppy Wilkins, Ava & Jaxon Burmaster, Mason & Alexander Bushie, Angelina & Savannah Stene). She enjoyed cooking and baking; especially many German dishes that were passed down through her family.

Betty loved bowling and playing golf for many years. She served as secretary in both leagues and was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ada where she served as a Eucharistic minister for many years.

Betty had been residing at the Mission Court Assisted Living Facility since August of 2013 until recently, when she moved into Bridges Care Community. She enjoyed the staff at both places and the wonderful care they gave her, along with all of the new friendships she made. As her family, we will always be grateful for her time spent at Mission Court and Bridges.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, mother and father, 4 sisters and 2 brothers. She is survived by her 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Visitation will be at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, 700 East Thorpe Avenue in Ada, MN 56540, on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, from 5-7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM.

There will be a funeral mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at 11 AM.

Burial will be in the Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
