Bernice "Ella" Vogel, age 57, of Grand Portage, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth, MN.

Bernice Ella Vogel, the daughter of Burnham Sr. and Marian (Sargent) Tibbetts, was born on March 2, 1960, in Mahnomen, MN. She was raised there and graduated from Mahnomen High School. Ella, as she was loving known, moved to Grand Portage as a young woman and has made her home there for many years. She was united in marriage to Bill Vogel and after his death she was left to raise their son, John, as a single mother. Ella worked various jobs over the years, but especially loved her career working with youth. Ella was a talented artist and enjoyed beading and making Ojibwe crafts. She had a special place in her heart for animals and cherished her pets. Several years ago, Ella met Garrett Swader and she has shared her life with him since. She loved to visit with family and friends as well as play Bingo and Keno at the Casino when she was able. Although her health had been failing, Ella made many wonderful memories with those she loved.

Ella is survived by her son, John Vogel; her significant other, Garrett Swader; four brothers: Burnham Jr. (Mary) Tibbetts, Bernard (Betty) Tibbetts, Marvin (Lynn) Tibbetts, and Terry (Carol) Tibbetts; two sisters, Judy Tibbetts and Deb Uran; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; an infant son, Andrew; a sister, Joyce; and her nephew, Mossy Tibbetts Jr.
