Bernice Sundet, age 88, of Twin Valley, MN, formerly Gary, MN, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Twin Valley Living Center. Bernice Marie Sirjord, the daughter of Olaf and Marie (Ystenes) Sirjord, was born on May 25, 1929 at home near Bejou, MN. She was raised on the family farm, and attended country school as a young girl. Bernice then went on to the Gary High School, where she graduated with the class of 1947. On December 26, 1948, Bernice was united in marriage to John P Sundet. They made their home on a farm east of Gary, where Bernice would continue to call home for the next 65 years. Bernice was an active farmwife and devoted mother. She proudly raised three children while working in her garden, making lefsa, cooking, and helping with other daily chores that needed to be done around the farm. After John's death in 1996, Bernice continued to live on the farm. In 2013, after suffering a stroke, Bernice entered the Twin Valley Living Center where she has made her home since. Bernice's faith in God was unwavering and was ever present in all aspects of her life. She was a longtime member of Ness Lutheran Church. Bernice had a passion for music and was always singing a beautiful melody or humming a tune as she went through her days. She taught herself to play both the piano and organ. Bernice shared her love of music with her children, which is a gift they will forever cherish. She was a talented artist that could often be found painting, rosemaling, or making quilts. Her hands were never idle, and her arms were always ready to share a hug with those she cared about. Bernice is survived by two sons, John (Juanita) of Richmond, MN and Rodney (Gayle) of Bedford, MA; one daughter, Carrie (Lyle) Fjeld of Gary; one sister, Wanda (Arnold) Benson of Ankeny, MN; one sister-in-law, Kathy Sirjord of Amery, WI; seven grandchildren: John (Anna) Sundet, Elizabeth (Brian Lohberger) Sundet; Eric Sundet, Alison (Alessandro) Massarotti, Bryan (Sneha) Sundet, Timothy Fjeld, and Trisha (Alantis) DeOliveira; five great grandchildren: John Christian Sundet, Charles Sundet, Giuliana Massarotti, Hailey Fjeld, and Srishti Sundet; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John P; her sisters, Marion (Palmer) Pederson and Maria (Arvid) Sather; brothers: Omar (Pauline), John, and an infant brother. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, October 30, 2017, at Ness Lutheran Church, rural Gary, MN. Visitation will take place at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen on Sunday, October 29, 2017, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm, with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:30 pm.
