Bernice Myers, age 91, of Ulen, Minnesota, died Monday, October 11, 2010, in the Viking Manor Nursing Home, Ulen.

Bernice T. Kvamme was born April 22, 1919, the daughter of Carl and Hilda (Natwick) Kvamme at Twin Valley, Minnesota, where she was raised. After graduating from the Twin Valley High School, Bernice went on to further her education at Interstate Business College in Fargo, North Dakota. With a degree in business, Bernice became a secretary to the Superintendent of the Park Board in Fargo for several years. After working there, she became employed in the Herbst Department Store in Fargo in the cafeteria as a cashier. It was there that she met her future husband, Charles Myers, who came in regularly to eat. They started to date and the rest is history. After Charles' graduation from NDSU as an engineer, he was hired at the Ford Automotive Company in Detroit, Michigan. On July 26, 1942, Bernice went to Detroit and she and Charles were married the next day, July 27, 1942. While living there, Bernice was employed at Demerys Department Store during the day and work as a waitress and cashier in the cafeteria at the Fraisier Building in the evenings. She was also employed as a hostess at the Normandy Restaurant for several years where she had the opportunity to meet many celebrities. This was a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

Bernice loved to plant flowers and to decorate her house for different holidays. She took such pride in her yard and her home. She was an excellent cook and entertained many friends and family. Bernice was always so optimistic and fun to be around because she was always so happy.

Charles died November 18, 1986 and Bernice continued to live in her home in Oak Park, Michigan. Due to poor health in 2001, Bernice moved to Ulen. She resided in the Northern Lights Assisted Living Apartments, also with Karen & Gordon Fevig, before entering the Viking Manor Nursing Home in October of 2008.

Bernice is survived by two brothers, Arthur (Delores) Kvamme of Brookland Park, MN and Conrad Kvamme of Arlington, MN; a sister, Senora Skay of Thief River Falls, MN; a special friend, Karen Fevig and a special niece, Lori Oberg that provided care for her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 10:30 AM in the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Ulen. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Officiating will be Pastor Curt Frankhauser with Mary Ann Schneidermann serving as organist and Sharon Wright serving as vocalist. Pallbearers will be Bernice's nieces, Sherry Nelson, Lisa Syverson, Lori Oberg, Renae Jensen, Kathy Cochrane, Diane Nokk, Sandra Baldalamante and Linda Weinberg. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Bernice's great nieces and nephews.

Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Twin Valley.
