Bernice Horack, age 93, of Frazee, MN, formerly Waubun, MN, died Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at the Frazee Care Center, Frazee, MN.

Bernice Catherine Reller was born August 21, 1926, in Minneapolis, MN, to Bernard "Murphy" and Anna (Ahles) Reller.  As a young child, she lived in Minneapolis until her family moved to the Waubun area when she was 2 years old.  Bernice attended school at Waubun Public School, graduating with the class of 1944.  She received her teaching certificate and began teaching in a one room schoolhouse at Adams Country School, east of Waubun then taught at Everdell Country School, near Breckenridge, MN.  She later furthered her education at Moorhead State and taught at Nashua, MN, before starting her teaching career at Waubun Public School, teaching 1 st grade.  Bernice met the love of her life, Henry Horack, and the couple was married at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun, on October 8, 1949.  They made their home in Waubun, and were blessed with a son, Robert.  In addition to being a loving wife and mother, she continued teaching at Waubun Public School until her retirement in 1995.  Teaching was her passion and she taught by example, always putting others before herself, showing what love and kindness truly meant.  She even received recognition on KVLY as "Teacher of the Month".  Henry died in February of 2013, and Bernice remained in their home for a couple years before moving to the Frazee Care Center.

Bernice had many interests including baking, gardening, and traveling.  Her garden and rhubarb patch produced a bountiful harvest for all to share in the community.  Some of her specialties including many varieties of pickles for one and all.  Bernice was an active member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hatters, ADK Teaching Sorority, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Rosary Society, and a long-time member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun.  However, her most important pastime was spending time with her family.

Bernice is survived by her son, Robert (Jean) Horack of Waubun; 2 granddaughters, Michelle (Ryan) Long of Orr, MN and Marci Horack of Fargo, ND; 2 great-grandsons, Joshua and Jackson Long; one sister, Lorraine Engel of Perham, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Anna; husband, Henry; and sister, Mary Ann Stangel.
