Bud Haugstad, 88, Halstad, Minnesota, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad.
Berdin "Bud" Jerome Haugstad was born January 4, 1922, at home in Traill County, ND, near Hillsboro. His parents were Bernt and Anna Marie (Thompson) Haugstad. He attended country school first in Bingham Township School near Cummings, ND and later near Caledonia, ND. Bud worked from 1942 to 1945 in California in the steel shipyards and started farming in 1945. He developed polio in 1946. From 1950 to 1964, he operated Bud's Shoe Repair in Hendrum, MN, and from 1964 until the present operated Bud's Shoe Repair in Halstad. Bud was a companion of Helen Hansen of Halstad for many years. He enjoyed singing, carpentry, making hobby crafts, tool pouches and sewing purses.
Bud is survived by two sisters, Tess Grover, Loma Linda, CA, and Jean (Mel) Eidsmoe, Moorhead, MN, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters. Gerta Nelson and Beulah Martindale, and his companion, Helen Hansen.

Funeral: 2PM Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at East Marsh River Lutheran Church, rural Halstad.
Visitation: One hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Halstad South Cemetery.
