Obituary

Bennett L. Iverson, age 90, a resident of Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN, formerly of Mahnomen, MN, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at MeritCare Health Systems Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND.

Bennett was born July 30, 1919 in Mahnomen, the son of Olaf and Margaret (Hendrickson) Iverson. He grew up and attended school in Mahnomen. As a young man, Bennett joined the army and served in Okinawa, Japan during World War II. On March 11, 1943, he married Blanche Dusa, of Mahnomen in Chico, California. They made their first home in California, returning back to Mahnomen after Bennett's discharge from the army, where they resided for over 55 years. In 2005, Bennett and Blanche moved to Eventide in Moorhead where they have continued to make their home.


Bennett worked at Mahnomen Public Schools, DeVac Window Company and for many years owned and operated a school bus for Mahnomen School District. After retiring from bus driving, he worked part-time for Spectrum, the local cable television company. He enjoyed taking care of customer needs and climbing poles, amazingly doing this until his late 70's. In his spare time he enjoyed camping, fishing and had a knack for woodworking. He was a very talented handy-man that would tackle almost any job in order to help a neighbor or friend.

Bennett is survived by his wife of 66 years, Blanche of Moorhead; daughter, Jean (LeRoy) Lamb of Palm Bay, FL; son, Bob (Jane) of Glyndon, MN; sister, Ruby (Bob) Barrett of Duluth, MN; four grandchildren: Laura Blyth, Jill (Mark) Bowen, Brian Iverson and Brad (Sarah) Iverson; four great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Kelsey Blyth, Tyler and Hannah Bowen.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milton; three sisters: Evelyn, Myrtle and Lillian.

A prayer service will be held Friday, November 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead with a funeral service on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 3:00 pm at First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen with visitation one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Interment will be at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery in Mahnomen.
