Beata Braaten, age 93, of Twin Valley, MN, died Thursday, February 09, 2012, in the Twin Valley Living Center, Twin Valley.
Beata A. Vange was born January 6, 1919, the daughter of Andrew and Caroline (Green) Vange on the family farm in Flom Township where she grew up. As a youngster, Beata attended Cheerful Nook School in that area. She was baptized and confirmed her faith in Aspelund Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. When Beata was a young woman, she worked as a housekeeper for the Braaten family. On May 18, 1941, Beata was united in marriage to Rudolph Braaten in the Wild Rice Lutheran Parsonage. During their married life, the couple lived on the family farm north east of Flom. After retiring in 1969, they moved into Twin Valley where Beata has continued to make her home entering the Twin Valley Living Center in the fall of 2011. Rudolph died February 17, 1976.
During her life, Beata farmed with Rudolph as well as being very active in her church and community, serving with the ladies aid at Aspelund Lutheran Church. For several years, Beata was employed at the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home in Twin Valley in the laundry department and in housekeeping. She thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Foster Grandparent program at Norman County East where she helped the children at the Gary site. Beata got her driver's license when she was in her 50's and would gladly chauffer anyone who needed a ride. Until recent years, Beata would still help out with at Aspelund Lutheran Church substituting as a teacher for the Sunday school.
Beata was known around town for being a fantastic pie baker and loved entertaining family and friends with her fresh bread and goodies. She also enjoyed spending time card playing with her friends at Valley Pines.
Beata is survived by her children, Jerry (Peg) Braaten and Charlie Braaten all of Flom, MN and a daughter, Carol Huhner of Fargo, ND; a brother, Clarence Vange of Detroit Lakes, MN; one granddaughter, Laura and three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Logan and Allison.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, three brothers and a son-in-law.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM in Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom, MN. Visitation wasSunday, January 12th from 2-4:30 PM with a Prayer Service at 3:00 PM in the Anderson Funeral Home, Twin Valley. Visitation was also one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Officiating was Pastor Al Brooks with Carol Johnson serving as organist and special music provided by Katie and Mike Klemetson. Pallbearers were Merrill Braaten, Dennis Thorson, Gerald Lien, Gary Lunde, Larry Vange and Dean Martinson.
Interment was in Aspelund Lutheran Cemetery, Flom.
