Barbara Geray, age 68, of Mahnomen, MN, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at her home, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Barbara Ann, the daughter of Robert and Dolores (Englin) Meyer, was born on September 4, 1950, in St. Paul, MN.  She was raised in St. Paul where she attended school.  As a young woman, Barb worked for an insurance company in Owatonna, MN, and later for ABC Freight Trucking Company.  On October 10, 1970, Barbara was united in marriage to Joseph Geray at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in St. Paul. The couple made their home together on the family farm east of Mahnomen where they were blessed with six children.   She was employed for a time at Midway Group Home followed by 20+ years of dedicated service as a paraprofessional at the Mahnomen Public School.   Even in retirement, Barb continued to substitute teach until February of this year when her health began to fail.  After a short battle with cancer, Barb passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Barb had a wonderful attitude towards life and shared her passions with those around her.  She liked to travel and took many wonderful trips with family and friends.  Special memories were made as they traveled to Germany, Mexico, and around the United States.  Barb always looked forward to her annual canoe trip with dear friends.  When staying closer to home, Barb and Joe, took many Sunday drives around the countryside.  She also found tranquility while rowing her kayak on the lake.  Barb kept an immaculate home and spent countless hours riding back and forth on the lawn mower, both were chores she truly enjoyed.  Barb had an eye for motorcycles and dreamed of one day having her own Harley.  Above all, Barb loved spending time with her family.  Whether she was hosting a large holiday get together or fishing with the grandkids, she cherished each moment.  Barb attended both her children and grandchildren's activities and was always their biggest fan.  Her strong personality, generous smile, and zest for life truly made her one of a kind.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Joseph of Mahnomen; her daughter, Michelle (fiancé, David Kunz) Geray of Detroit Lakes, MN; five sons: Matt, Andrew (Melissa), Joe (Laurie Pinske), David (Brenda), and Steven (Leah), all of Mahnomen; 11 grandchildren: Lukas, Jenna, Mckenzie, JoLyn, Kayla, Blake, Lilly, Norah, Wyatt, Henry and Drayke; five brothers: John "Jack" (Coleen) Meyer of St. Paul, MN, William (Carolyn) Meyer also of St. Paul, Bob (Maureen) Meyer of Mendota Heights, MN, Don of Burnsville, MN, and Steve (Denise) of Oakdale, MN; sisters-in-law: Sr. Marietta Geray of St. Cloud, MN, Vivian Beuing of St. Cloud, Veronica Placek of Cedar Rapids, IA, Geraldine Luken of Alabama, Marie Plante of St. Cloud, and Crysanthia "Sandy" Tsichda of Coon Rapids, MN; brother-in-law, Rienald Geray of Mahnomen; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and four sisters-in-law: Arla, Magdaline, Rita, and Connie.

Funeral Mass will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN.  Visitation will also take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
