Avis K. Tufte, 79, Ada, MN, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.

Avis Kathleen Froirak was born July 1, 1932, at McIntosh, MN, the daughter of Sam and Clara (Oppegaard) Froirak. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran church in McIntosh. Avis graduated from McIntosh High School in 1950. She attended college at Bemidji State College for a time before she was united in marriage to Davis Tufte on November 18, 1954, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Ada, MN. They lived on a farm near Ada and raised their children. Avis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ada.
She was a homemaker and was known to be a great cook and baker. She raised vegetables in her gardens and enjoyed the special times when her children and grandchildren would gather at the farm. Avis was fond of her many pets and devoted a lot of time to care for them. She also enjoyed music and dancing.

In September of 2010, Avis was injured from a fall and moved to the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN. She continued to live there until her recent hospitalization.

Avis is survived by three sons, Bruce (Mary), Borup MN, Blair (Paula), Ada, MN, Brent (Kathy), Twin Valley, MN; one daughter, Pam (Sam) Larson, Ada, MN, ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Davis, one son, Brian, her brother, Duane Froirak, her sister-in-law, Donna Froirak, and a son-in-law, Darrell Miller.

Memorial service: 10:30AM, Monday, March 12, 2012, at Zion Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: One hour before the service in the church.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
