Avis Korsgaden, age 95, of Twin Valley, MN, died Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN, surrounded by loved ones.

Avis Lorraine Weium was born June 7, 1924, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Hoien) Weium in Twin Valley, MN.  She grew up in the area and graduated from Twin Valley High School with the class of 1942.  Following graduation, Avis worked at the Red Owl Grocery Store in Twin Valley and also spent a summer working in the Twin Cities before returning to Twin Valley.  She met the love of her life, Oral Korsgaden and the two were united in marriage on November 10, 1946, at the Wild Rice Parsonage.  The young couple made their home on the farm, working side by side.  Avis spent countless hours working in the garden, canning and freezing its abundant produce, butchering chickens and helping Oral with the daily chores.  After many years of farming, they moved to their home in Twin Valley in 1983.  Oral passed away in April of 1991, and Avis remained in their home until she downsized to a small apartment before moving to the Twin Valley Living Center.  Avis has lived at the Halstad Living Center, next to her sister, Jean, since October of 2018.

If you knew Avis, you knew she did things full throttle all the time.  She was always on the move working and looking for that next project.  She had a tremendous giving spirit with a willingness to help anyone in need.  Avis had a wonderful sense of humor with quick wit and always greeted you with a smile.  She looked forward to visits with friends and family over a good cup of coffee.  In her younger years, Avis and Oral enjoyed dancing and playing cards.  She liked to feed and watch the birds and loved to go to rummage sales with Lynn and Phillis in Moorhead, MN.  Avis was a lifelong member of Wild Rice Church where she taught Sunday School and was active with the ladies aid.  She will be greatly missed by many.

Avis is survived by one brother, Lynn (Phillis) Weium of Moorhead; one sister, Jean Kindseth of Halstad; sisters-in-law, Arlene Korsgaden of Twin Valley and Halina Weium of Houston, TX; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oral; two brothers; five brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; one nephew and one niece.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the church.
