Arthur Walter Schuschke, 89, Fertile, MN, went home to Heaven on Tuesday, May 19, 2020. He was born on May 2, 1931, to Emil and Hertha (Wall) Schuschke in Stiles, N.D. He was baptized and confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lidgerwood, ND. He grew up and attended school at Lidgerwood. He received his B.A. degree from Ellendale State Normal and Industrial College in 1953 and was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Neuman on May 31, 1953, in Battle Lake, MN. He spent two years in the US Army Signal Corp during the Korean War living in Arkansas, Indiana, Georgia and New Jersey. Arthur and Dorothy moved to Fertile, MN, in 1955, where Arthur taught Industrial Arts, Vocational Education, Science and Math until retirement in 1986. He was named an Honored Teacher in 1969-1970. He also coached J.V. Football, Basketball, Track, and was an Assistant Football Coach. He earned his Master's Degree in Education from the University of North Dakota in 1960. As a second job on weekends and summers he built houses and remodeled buildings as Schuschke Construction with his son Dale.
Arthur was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church since 1955 where he served as a Deacon, a member of several building committees, Sunday School Teacher, Prayer Partner, and a Confirmation mentor. He served on the Fair Meadow Nursing Home Advisory Board from 1978-1984.
In his retirement years, Arthur continued to build houses, furniture, and did cabinet work in his home shop. He was always ready and happy to build and repair items for his beloved church. He also enjoyed helping his son-in-law Alton, and grandsons with harvesting, etc. He was involved in Scouting and a member of the American Legion and a former Lions Club member. His hobbies were woodworking, crossword puzzles, jig-saw puzzles, reading, and being with his grandchildren.
