Obituary

Arthur "Art" Gulbranson, age 90 of Erskine, MN, died on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at the Pioneer Care Center in Erskine.

Art was born on February 24, 1918 in Clay County to parents Oscar and Nora Gulbranson. After his mother passed away he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Gilbert and Matilda Gulbranson, who resided near Alida, MN.

On June 4, 1941 Art married Evangeline Rose Nee in Shevlin, MN. Five months after his son, Orville, was born, Art was drafted into the service in September of 1942. Serving in the United Stated Army, he was trained in glider repair. Following his duties in North Africa and Sicily, Art was discharged in August of 1945 as Staff Sergeant. Upon his return from war, Art worked at Gambles in Bagley, MN. His daughter, Darla, was born in May 1946 and in 1955 Evangeline died in a car accident.

In 1957 Art married Ina Lundin of Erskine. With this marriage came three daughters, Joanne, Linda and Katherine. In 1960 the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where they lived for 15 years. In 1975 Art and Ina moved back to Fertile, MN, where he worked at Coast to Coast Hardware. During this time Art also did home repairs for several years. They lived in Fertile until September 2000 when Art moved to the Country Place Apartments and Ina entered the Pioneer Nursing Home.

Art enjoyed many things throughout his lifetime. In addition to his love of music and dancing, he loved to garden and liked his Lutefisk.

He was preceded in death by both wives; his parents and brother, Orville.

Surviving him are his children: Orville (Jill) Gulbranson, St. Cloud, MN; Darla (Bob) Jackson, Bemidji, MN; Joanne (Carsten) Zahl, Winger, MN; Linda (Peter) Haedtke, Winona, MN; Katherine (Neil) Christianson, Plymouth, MN; his sister, Norma Jean Rusfeldt, Erskine; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
