Arnie was born on May 29, 1931, near Sisseton, SD, the son of Andrew and Anna (Olstad) Olson. He attended country school near the family farm. After he finished his schooling, he stayed active helping around the farm.

On October 17, 1951, Arnie was united in marriage to Lillian Reitan, in Webster, SD. For a time they resided in Aberdeen, SD. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, they lived in Washington State and Minneapolis before moving to a farm near Gary, MN, in 1965. He was a foreman during his years working at Silver line Boats in Minneapolis.

Arnie was a proud dairy and grain farmer and was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. He had a strong work ethic as evidenced by many years of milking cows. He was also very proud of his sunflower crops. Arnie and Lilian enjoyed dancing and would attend square dancing events and barn dances around Sisseton.

He was a proud Norwegian and appreciated his heritage. Arnie also followed the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, and Gophers. He enjoyed spending time with Jim and attended many ballgames watching him play. He was very proud of Jim's accomplishments and for completing his educational degrees. Arnie kept working into his 80's and had worked for the Ada Liquor Store and driving limousine.
