Arnold G. Jallo, 86, Waubun, Minnesota died Tuesday Sept. 4, 2012 in the Golden Living Center, Moorhead, Minnesota.
Arnold Gilbert Jallo, the son of Albert and Olga (Wiste) Jallo, was born June 20, 1926 in Fordville, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm near there and attended school in Lankin, North Dakota. As a young man, Arnold worked on the family farm as well as being an auto mechanic and working for Petersburg Supply. In 1950, Arnold entered the United States Army. He proudly served his country in Korea where he was an engineer with the 40th Division of the 5th Army Area. He earned the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge in 1952. After his military service, Arnold worked for a time in Ely, Minnesota as a mechanic in the Ford dealership. On March 6, 1954 Arnold was united in marriage to Marcella Wilt in Mahnomen, Minnesota. The couple made their home near Fertile, Minnesota before purchasing a farm east of Waubun where he raised cattle and grain crops. During his farming career, Arnold also was employed as a full-time civil servant rural mail carrier in Waubun. He proudly served the United States Postal Service until his retirement from civil service in 1988. In 2004, Arnold retired from farming but continued to make the farm their home. Following Marcella's sudden death on October 21, 2009 Arnold remained at home on the farm.
Arnold was a member of the Ogema VFW Post #9880, the Ogema American Legion and the Rural Postal Carriers Union. His favorite pastimes included listening to polka music, watching Nascar racing and the Twins baseball. He also kept an immaculate yard and loved bird watching. Arnold cherished his family was proud of each of them. He loved spending time visiting with all of his dear friends and family.

is survived by two sons, Dean (Penny) Jallo of Hawley, MN and Arlen (Cheryl) Jallo of Marocola, OR; a daughter, Laurie (Brenda) Jallo of Greenville, WI; brothers, Alden (Lavonn) Jallo of Fertile, MN, Harold (Carol) Jallo of Fordville, ND, Al (Marg) of Devils Lake, ND and Marvin Jallo of Petersburg, ND; sisters, Edith Mullenhour of Augusta, GA and Gladys Zittle of Portland, OR; brother-in-law, Lyle (Liz) Wilt of Turtle Lake, ND; sisters-in-law, Lillian Jallo of Park River, ND, Gladys McFarland of Bloomington, MN, Rosella Kolrud and Iris Gust both of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Angie, Casey (Tyler), Ashley (Josh), Elijah (Amber), Christopher and Dylan, five great-grandchildren Caleb, Ava, Brett, Bryce and soon-to-be baby Kjos.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 8th at 11:00am in the Lake Grove Lutheran Church, rural Waubun. Visitation will be in the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen, Minnesota on Friday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm and one hour before services in the church. Officiating will be Rev. Doyle Turner with Sue Heisler serving as organist. Hank Reitan will lead special music. Pallbearers will be Darrel Jallo, Donny Jallo, Dale Jallo, Wayne Jallo, Les Jallo and Bruce Jallo. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Arnold's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the rest of his nieces, nephews and their families. Military honors will be provided by the Ogema VFW Post #9880, Mahnomen American Legion Isaacson-Bjorge Post #31, and the MN Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Mahnomen.
