Arnold L. Gunnerson, 96, Ada, MN, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, in Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Fargo, ND. Arnold Leroy was born on May 13, 1914, rural Ada, MN, to Albert and Emma (Tvedt) Gunnerson. He grew up and attended school in Ada.

Arnold was united in marriage to Paulette Motteberg on February 15, 1961 at the Faaberg Lutheran Parsonage, Rindal, MN.

Arnold grew up on a farm and developed a natural talent for fixing things, especially engines and anything mechanical. The US Army recognized his talent when he enlisted to serve in World War II. He became a Tech IV Sargent in the 65th Field Armored Artillery Battalion serving in Europe through Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge.

After the war he owned and operated Arnold's Auto Service on the south side of Ada for over 25 years. When he wasn't working long hours at the shop he would tinker with lawnmower engines and other home improvement projects.

One of his favorite interests was steam railroading and antique tractors. He always loved going to the Steam Thresher's Reunion in Rollag, MN and attended until the most recent reunion in September 2010.

Though he wasn't a hunter or fisherman he loved the outdoors, wildlife, nature and animals, especially dogs.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Paulette, Ada, MN, two daughters: Bonnie (David) Foss, Coppell, TX, Cindy Gunnerson, Fargo, ND, two sons: Timothy Gunnerson, Ada, MN, James Gunnerson, Eagan, MN, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Esther Platt.

Memorial Service: 2:30pm, Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
