Arlene Zahl, age 82, of Winger, MN, died Saturday, January 21, 2012 in her home.
Arlene Joyce Vesledahl, the daughter of Oscar and Lena (Anderson) Vesledahl, was born on December 31, 1929 at home in rural Winger. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Arlene furthered her education attending the Crookston Ag School in Crookston, MN. After graduating, she returned to the Winger area and worked for a time at the Winger Bank. On June 24, 1949 Arlene was united in marriage to Marvin Zahl and the couple made their home on the Zahl family farm. While raising their children, Arlene worked several years as a cook at the Winger School, before beginning her career on April 4, 1977 at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN, retiring on April 14, 2005. Marvin passed away in February of 1983 and Arlene continued to make her home on the farm.
Arlene enjoyed people stopping by for a visit and was known to always have the coffee on. Arlene's passions in life were sharing her home-cooked meals with family and friends and enjoying the outdoors while gardening and mowing. She treasured her independence and living on the farm. She liked politics and could offer a great debate to those who would partake. Above all, was her faith in God and the love of her family. Arlene will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Arlene is survived by one son, Kevin Zahl of Winger; three daughters: Marsha Zahl of Erskine, Patricia (John) Morrison of Erskine, and Renae (Regan) Rohl of Fargo, ND; two sisters, Gladys (Duane) Crowser of Hendricks, MN, and Marvie (Raymond) Stromstad of Beltrami, MN; one brother-in-law, Charles Holmquist of Crookston; 10 grandchildren: Janelle, Brendan, John II, Alicia, and Karina Morrison, Adam (Courtney) Bergman, Amy (Tom) Deacon, Ashley (Grant) Gagner, India Rohl, and Ashley Finke; and three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Piper, and Kenzie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin; a brother, Alden Vesledahl; and a sister, Bonnie Holmquist.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 27, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Winger. Visitation will be held at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN, on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 6:00pm.
Burial will take place at Gosen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Winger.
