Arlen D. Lunde, age 62, Flom, MN died unexpectedly Saturday, July 18, 2009 in Flom.

Arlen D. Lunde was born November 12, 1946 in Detroit Lakes, MN the son of Orlando and Norma (Rikhus) Lunde. He was raised near Flom, and was baptized and confirmed at the Aspelund Lutheran Church there. Arlen attended grade school at Flom for the 1st grade and then went to the Waubun, MN grade school until the 5th grade. He moved with his family to Babbitt, Minnesota for the next four years of his life. They returned to the Flom community and Arlen graduated with the class of 1964 from the Waubun High School. During high school and after graduation, Arlen worked with his father as a grader operator. In the mid 1960's he joined the National Guard where he served for six years. In 1970 he was united in marriage to Jane Foltz. They made their home near Flom and he continued to operate his road grading business, primarily providing blade service to the area townships. Over the years his business continued to grow and is now known as Lunde Blade and Gravel. Lunde Blade and Gravel is currently the major excavating business in this area but they still operate their blade service in the area townships as he had in the early years. Arlen had a reputation for always getting the job done no matter how large or small it might be or how much other work he had scheduled. He will long be remembered as an astute, hard working businessman in the community and as a valued friend and neighbor to many.

Arlen was a member of the Flom League of Men, Flom Community Club and the Mahnomen American Legion. He enjoyed camping, golfing, driving his Corvette and for the past few years spending a few months during the winter in his home in Arizona. He enjoyed spending time with his many friends and always loved having a good time.

Arlen is survived by his friend, Bonnie Cogger, Flom, MN; one daughter, Christy (Jeff) Eickhoff, Montevideo, MN; two sons, Dwayne of New York City, NY, and Chad (Joni) , Detroit Lakes, MN; his mother, Norma Lunde, Flom, MN; two sisters, Sandra (Terry) Fornes, Loveland, CO and Rhonda (Jim) Tweeter, Richville, MN; two brothers, Gary (Linda) Lunde and David (Diane) Lunde both of Flom, MN; and his five grandchildren, Bailey, Alissa, Aiden, Megan and Ellie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orlando.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22nd at 11:00am in the Aspelund Lutheran Church, Flom. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00pm until 7:00pm with a prayer service at 7:00pm in the church. Pastor Chad Peterson will officiate with Carol Johnson as organist. Steve Lunde will serve as vocalist. His pallbearers are Jason Lunde, Eric (Beezer) Boman, Jeri Thompson, Tim Safar, Mark Kersting and Bob Stevens. Arlen's honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Burial will take place in the Aspelund Lutheran Cemetery.
