Arla Bromander Kent, age 86, of Waubun, MN, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Ecumen Detroit Lakes, MN. Arla June Ommodt was born April 20, 1929, the only child of William and Nolda (Kvidt) Ommodt at home west of Waubun. She attended Cheerful Nook Country School through the fourth grade, then on to Waubun graduating from Waubun High School with the class of 1946. Arla furthered her education first at Concordia College then to Moorhead State Teachers' College where she earned her Teaching Certificate. During her sophomore year in college, Arla met the love of her life, Kenneth Bromander. After graduating from college in 1950, Arla was united in marriage to Kenneth on June 18, 1950, at Aspelund Lutheran Church near Flom. The couple made their home near Flom where they owned and operated a dairy and grain farm. Arla played an active role on the farm as well as raising their four children. After their youngest child, Roger, became school age, Arla started teaching in the Ulen-Hitterdal School, both Junior and Senior High. She thoroughly loved teaching and had a great rapport with her students. Arla retired from teaching in 1977 to take care of her parents due to their failing health. She kept busy with her family and a lot of church work. Upon retiring from farming in 1989, the couple moved into Twin Valley. Kenneth passed away on April 16, 1998. On March 9, 2001, Arla was blessed in love and marriage to Russell Kent. They made their home on his farm near Waubun. They had 15 wonderful years together filled with good memories. Arla embraced her new family as her own. She entered Ecumen in Detroit Lakes six weeks ago due to failing health. Over the years, Arla was a very active member of Aspelund Lutheran Church. She was conference president of the WELCA three times and attended the National Convention as well as doing the workshops and various speaking engagements. She was most recently an active member of Circle of Faith Church in Waubun. Some of Arla's favorite pastimes included singing, quilting, reading, crocheting, and playing cards. Arla truly treasured being a grandma. It was a joy for her to watch them grow up and she was truly proud of each of them! Arla is survived by her husband, Russell Kent of Waubun, MN: her children: Kathy (Ed) Blascyk of Cloquet, MN, Lowell (Debby) Bromander of Golden Valley, MN, Karen (John) Bilitz of Beaver Dam, WI, and Roger Bromander of Golden Valley, MN; her step-children: Karen Lefebvre of Waubun, MN; Barbara (Paul) Lago of Oxford, MS, Larry Kent of Frazee, MN, Suzanne (Paul) Munsterteiger of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sandra (Michael) LeDoux of Gilbert, MN, Merry (Carl) Teiken of Waubun, MN, Robin Kent of Buckeye, AZ, Mark (Anne) Kent of Waubun, MN, Maureen Kent of Waubun, MN and Vi (Hershell) Kent of Glendale, AZ; sister-in-law, Margaret Kent of Detroit Lakes, MN; 104 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth Bromander; and grandsons: William Runck, Brandon Kent, Jason Lindsey and Seth Kent.
