Ardith Jean Holen, 82, of Baudette, MN, formerly of Fertile, Crookston and Bemidji, MN, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the Lakewood Health Center, Baudette. She was born on July 27, 1929, on the home farm in Garfield Twp, rural Fertile to Robert and Olida (Kvitne) Gullickson. Ardith was baptized and confirmed at Little Norway Lutheran Church, rural Fertile. She began her schooling at Lakeview Rural School and graduated from the Fertile-Beltrami High School.
On October 22, 1949, Ardith was united in marriage to James Holen at the Fertile parsonage by Rev. Gabrielson. They farmed in the rural Fertile area, prior to moving to Crookston, MN in 1957. They moved back to Fertile in 1987, and from 1990 until 1996, they spent winters in Apache Junction, AZ, and summers in Baudette. On August 13, 1996, James died suddenly. Ardith moved to Bemidji and, later, to Baudette. She entered the Lakewood Health Center on October 27, 2011. Ardith was a former member of Varnes Lutheran Church, rural Fertile.
Being fussed over made Ardith uncomfortable; she would rather be the one who took care of others. When she was younger, Ardith enjoyed playing piano and organ. Her creative abilities were seen in her embroidery work. Ardith was loving and kind to all and felt most comfortable being with her family. May God bless her memory.
Ardith is survived by three sons: Rodney (Cathe), Bemidji; Dan (Kathy), Baudette; and Kevin (Orpha), Williams, MN; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters, Opal Waslien, Charlotte Swanson, and Verna Nolte, and two brothers, Harold and Reuben.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Friday, January 13, 2012, in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Visitation will be one hour the service in the Erikson-Vik Funeral Home, Fertile, MN.
Burial will be in the Varnes Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fertile, MN.
