E. Ardis Anderson was born March 16, 1923 at home to Oscar and Mollie (Olson) Anderson in Eglon Township, rural Hawley, MN. She was baptized at Solem Lutheran Church and attended country school at District 61 School House. When Ardis was in the 6th grade, she moved with her family to Twin Valley, MN. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley and graduated with the class of 1942. Following high school, Ardis worked as a waitress in Hitterdal. This is where she would meet her husband to be, Alfin E. Selseth.
Alfin and Ardis were united in marriage on April 14, 1946 at the parsonage in Lake Park, MN. The couple made their home on the Selseth farm in Atlanta Township until moving to Hitterdal in 1951. In 1977, Ardis began working as a cook for the Senior Meals Program in Hitterdal. Alfin died in December of 1985 and Ardis continued living in her house and working at the senior center until 1995 when her health forced her to move into Viking Manor Nursing Home. After three years of living at Viking Manor, Ardis moved in with her daughter, Sheryl, until last November when she moved back to Viking Manor. Ardis died Thursday, October 15, 2009, in Viking Manor Nursing Home at the age of 86.
One of the most important aspects of Ardis' daily living was her family. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her family, especially all of her grandchildren and all the greats. One of her most favorite pastimes was to embroider and quilt. Over the years, Ardis made many, many items for her family including numerous kitty pillows. She was a long time member of Salem Lutheran Church and its circle group and ladies aid.
