WEATHER UPDATE:  Visitation and funeral service time changes

VISITATION ON THURSDAY HAS BEEN CANCELED .  FUNERAL MASS will NOW be held on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fertile, MN. Visitation will be held one hour before the funeral on Friday, ONLY .    Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Fertile, MN.

Ardis Chisholm age 84, of Ada, MN, formerly of Gary, MN, died Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Benedictine Living Community of Ada.

Ardis Lorraine Jacobson was born at home near Hendrum, MN, on February 23, 1934, the daughter of Clarence and Nettie (Bell) Jacobson. She attended country school and graduated from Ada High School with the Class of 1952. Following high school, Ardis worked at the hospital as a nurse aid. On December 12, 1955, Ardis was united in marriage to Francis Chisholm in Fertile, MN. In 1962, the couple purchased their own farm west of Gary, MN. They retired in the early 1990's and continued to make their home on the farm. In December of 2000, Francis passed away and Ardis remained at home until she moved to the Benedictine Living Community of Ada in 2014.

Some of Ardis' favorite past times included reading, visiting, especially with her sister, Doris, and going for drives in the country side that always ended with a favorite ice cream treat. She also enjoyed music, painting, and walking and biking in her younger years. In their retirement years, Francis and Ardis enjoyed visiting Las Vegas and Texas.

Ardis was a long-time member of St. Joseph's where she taught Sunday School and was also very active with the women's auxiliary. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle, patient lady with a huge caring heart. She never raised her voice and always discouraged arguing among her children and grandchildren. She loved her family very much and was always there for them. As children she would bake them brownies, as young adults she would anxiously wait up for them to return home with the latest goings on up town, and as adults she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and follow their activities. She will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Ardis is survived by two sons, Bradley (Susan) of Avon, MN, and Kelly (Stacy) of Gary, MN; four daughters: Colleen (Michael) Sterry of Fort Collins, CO, Jane (Jeff) Ward of North Mankato, MN, Charlotte (Robert) Bradford of Faribault, MN, and Jill (Jerry) Bennett of Gary; seven grandchildren: Britney (Michael) Busse, Taylor (Bri) Foster, McKenzie (Corey) Babcock, Allison (Elliot) Johnson, Mitchell Bradford, Gina Bradford, and Robin Thomson; four great-grandchildren: Willa and Iver Busse, and Kira and Brynn Thomson; six step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Barkve of Ada, MN, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and an infant son.
