Anton "Tony" Hermon Jagol, 88, Fertile, MN, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at his residence.
Tony was born on April 21, 1923, at Grassy Butte, ND, the son of Carl and Thelma (Kostenko) Jagol. He attended school at Little Knife country school, near Grassy Butte. When the drought hit western North Dakota, he moved with his family to Wylie, MN, in the 1930's and attended Black River School. The family moved to Dorothy, MN and Tony stayed on the farm until tragedy struck the family in 1944. That fall the family moved to a farm in Northeast of Fertile, and in the fall of 1945, they purchased the Lundby farm Northwest of Fertile. Tony has lived there since. Over the years, Tony farmed and raised cattle.
Fishing in Alaska for salmon and halibut with his brother, Don, and friends was looked forward to for many years. People could count on seeing Tony at Mac's Café on Monday nights to play whist with friends. Family gatherings at his home were a highlight for all, especially the card games Tony would organize. He hunted deer in the fall with family and friends and trapped, as well as ice fished on Lake of the Woods. He was a great cook, canner and gardener. May he be remember fondly by all.
Tony is survived by two brothers, Donald Jagol, Crookston, MN and Matt (Inez) Jagol, Fertile, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, five brothers, Alec, Steve, John, Peter, and George, four sisters, Rose Gaber, Amy Andersen, Mary Haugen, and Nellie Biesot, four sisters-in-law, and Anna, Madeline, Betty, and Evelyn, five brothers-in-law, John Lakedon, Adam Gaber, Norman Andersen, Bennie Haugen, and Harry Biesiot.
