Anthony
Schoenborn
Feb 27, 1934 — Dec 15, 2021
Mahnomen
Anthony Steven Schoenborn, age 87, of Mahnomen, MN, passed away in the arms of his loving family at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND, on December 15, 2021.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Mahnomen, MN. Visitation will be held one-hour prior at the church. Interment will be in at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Mahnomen, MN.
The sixth of seven children born to Herman and Cecilia (Haider) Schoenborn, Anthony was born February 27, 1934. He was born and raised in Beaulieu, MN, attended country school and worked on the family farm.
Anthony met Joan Hoss in 1953. He loved Joan deeply, and loved her mother's rhubarb custard pie almost as much. They were happily married on November 26, 1955, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Mahnomen, where they became longtime members. Even up until the day he died, Anthony remembered their first kiss in front of the KC Hall.
Anthony was a very hard-working man. He had a bulk milk business for 33 years and utilized his love of cars as an auto body repairman for over 20 years. Even after retirement, he worked at the Shooting Stars Casino for 8 years. Anthony was also quite the handyman and loved doing projects. If you've ever driven by their house, you've seen all of his handmade wooden planters.
Anthony and Joan loved spending winters in warm Arizona and Laughlin, NV, soaking up the sun and walking together all day. He had the biggest smile you've ever seen and his bold laughter filled the room. Anthony told the best stories, and gave you his most sincere advice, even if you didn't ask for it. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, which he considered his greatest treasures.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Schoenborn, Mahnomen; two daughters: Brenda (Peter) Zimmel, Dilworth, MN, and Tammy (Marv Sargent) Beyers, South Fargo, ND; one son, Randy (Joy) Schoenborn, East Grand Fork, MN; a special niece, Lori (Greg) Boyum, Mahnomen; five grandchildren: Sarah (Duston) Hoffner, Jesse Beyers, Eric (Laida) Zimmel, Abby (Andrew) Cohen, and Kate (Trenton) Egan; four great-grandchildren: Hailey, Cohen, Mia, and Camilla; and brothers: LaVerne (Verla), Delmar (Betty Ann), and Sylvester (Pat), all of Mahnomen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Cecilia; mother and father-in-law, Anna and Leo Hoss; brothers: Wally and Marvin Schoenborn; sister, Lucille Winter; sisters-in-law: Mardelle and Eleanor Schoenborn; and brother-in-law, Milo Winter.
