Anna (Shaide) Sontag, 96, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the Halstad Living Center, Halstad, MN, surrounded by four generations of family members.

She was born November 17, 1919, at home near Twin Valley, MN, the eighth child of John and Inga (Haugness) Jensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

When she was six years old the family moved to rural Borup and she attended country school. After her eighth grade graduation she attended and graduated from the Agricultural College, Crookston, MN.

On June 12, 1943 she married Delmer Shaide. Delmer and Anna had two daughters, Robin and Candace. They farmed near Borup MN, and raised a variety of animals. Delmer passed away June 15, 1974. Anna remained on the farm several years and eventually moved to Ada MN.

On January 12, 1991 she married Arthur Sontag in Las Vegas. They lived in Ada during the summer and in Mesa AZ during the winter. Arthur passed away October 3, 2000.

Anna moved to the Halstad Living Center, in December 2013 and resided there until her death.

Anna was a busy talented social woman and was involved in various activities including being a 4-H leader for many years, Ada VFW Auxiliary, Winchester Lutheran Church, ladies aid and church organist, crafts (sewing, quilting, oil painting, Hardanger, knitting, crocheting, needlework and others), helped with the farming operation, was an excellent seamstress, sewing for others, making bridal gowns and doing tailoring, and was instrumental in starting the Red River Valley Saddle Club. She worked part time in several retail positions including Ben Franklin, Olson's Men's Wear, Ada Fashion Shop and The Button Box to name a few, and she sold Artex embroidery paints.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Delmer and Arthur; sisters Selma, Hilda, and Bertha; brothers Arthur, Johnny, Carl, Clarence, Joseph, Henry, Orlean and Ordean.

She is survived by daughters Robin (Eldon) Hetland, Shelly, MN and Candace (Donald) Pierce, Surprise, AZ; Grandchildren Zachary (Nicole) Pierce, Tucson, AZ, Holly (Jeff) Daly, Portland, OR, Genn (Ron) Bervig, Halstad, MN and NaLoni (Patrick) Spence Maple Grove, MN; Great Grandchildren Chelsie Nygaard (fiance Nick Froning), Elissa Nygaard, Andrew Bervig (Jasmine Hayes), Mitchell Spence and Megan Spence (Anthony Satran): Great-great grandchildren Phoenix and Elianna Tovar and Aiden and Zaniyah Bervig. She is also survived by a sister Lillian (Knut) Wefald, brothers Marvin and Anton (Tony) Jensen, sisters-in-law Charmaine and Helen Jensen and Lorraine Malloy and brother-in-law Bill Cento, plus several nieces and nephews.

Anna loved life, her community, her family and friends and her Lord. Blessed be her memory.

Memorial Service: 11:00AM Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.

Visitation: 5:00PM to 7:00PM Friday February 12, 2016, with a 7:00PM prayer service all at the church.

Burial: Ada City Cemetery, Ada, MN.
