Anna Matejcek, age 96, of Waubun, MN, died on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at the Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.

Anna Martha Matejcek was born August 9, 1927, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Spinler) Matejcek in Lake Grove Township, rural Waubun.  She attended elementary school at Espe School Dist. 12 and graduated from Waubun High School with the Class of 1945.  Following high school, Anna continued to live on the family farm where she helped with all the daily chores.  Together with her brother, Frank, they lived on the farm and worked the land until selling the land to the neighbors, Dale and Donna Spaeth, who over the years became like family.  Following Frank's death in 2015, Anna moved to Evergreen Apartments in Waubun to make her home.  Most recently, she had been living at Fair Meadow Nursing Home in Fertile until her death.

Anna was a hardworking woman with a gentle spirit and straightforward outlook on life.  She didn't require much to be happy and enjoyed the simpler things in life.  Anna was a lifelong member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, and her faith was evident in her day to day living and how she portrayed herself.  In her spare time, she loved putting together jigsaw puzzles and always enjoyed a visit from family and friends.  Although Anna never had children of her own, she looked fondly upon Dale and Donna's children, Daleah and Denny, forming a special bond like her own grandchildren.  Over the years, Anna could often be found outside tending to the garden and flower beds.  Her favorite time of year was the Spring when everything began to bloom including any and all varieties of roses.

Anna is survived by nephews, Dennis (Jo) Johnson and David (Bev) Johnson all from Bemidji, MN; nieces, Caroline Payne of Mesa, AZ, and Linda Gregg of Minneapolis, MN; many great nieces, nephews and adopted family, Dale, Donna, Daleah and Denny Spaeth of Waubun.  She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Joseph, Vincent and Frank; and sisters: Martha, Agnes and Mary.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 11 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun, MN, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will take place following Mass at St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery, Waubun.
