Obituary

Anna Grossman, 96, died on Sunday, October 17, 2010, at the Bridges Care community, Ada, MN.

Anna Martha Schultz was born on June 16, 1914, to Anton and Martha (Schimanski) Schultz at Reynolds, ND. She was baptized at Reynolds and confirmed her faith in Ada. At the age of 6, Anna moved from Reynolds to Norman County. Anna recalls herding cattle and the trip taking a long time. They settled on the Rudy Farm and Anna attended school in Norman County. Her principal was Ella Stensgard and Anna worked for her caring for elderly parents and doing house work. She received $3.00 per week and felt she was being well compensated.

On November 5, 1931, Anna was united in marriage to Norman Grossman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ada. They were blessed with two children: Bernard and Sharon. Anna was a wonderful homemaker, baking, canning, and caring for her family. "Homemade" certainly describes Anna's way of life and she prided herself with various skills around the home. Anna always had a plentiful garden, loved to fish (when she had time) and sewed quilts and for her family.

As the oldest of sixteen children, Anna learned to care for others. Over the years, she oversaw family matters and many relied on her for advice and knowledge. Because of her resourcefulness, Anna always had things her family needed—from buttons to the whereabouts of keys. She enjoyed dancing and taught Margie, at the age of 9, to dance because a wedding was coming and Margie needed to know how to dance.

Anna enjoyed feeding others and preparing foods she enjoyed—like potato salad and cookies. When you went to Anna's home you had to eat. It was always lunch time at Anna's. Reading about history and learning new things kept Anna sharp and knowledgeable. She loved family, friends and the church.

Anna is survived by her daughter, Sharon Grossman, Ada; one daughter-in-law, Bernice Grossman, Ada; one sister, Violet Nelson, Wauwatosa, WI; grandchildren: Bruce (Julie) Grossman, Betty Ann Larson, Anthony (Tammy) Fauglid, Brenda Radke, Andy Fauglid, and Beth (Scott) Hagel; great-grandchildren: Stephanie (Kylen) Mandy, Chad, A.J., Ryan, Tyler, Shannon, Tracy, Amanda, Benjamin and Samuel; great-great-grandchildren: Amaris, Jackson, Harley, Tyra, Taylor, Loki, and Freya; and several nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; son, Bernard; twin great-grandchildren; and siblings: August, Frank, Albert, Alfred, Mary, Tony, Martha, Lena, Ted, Carl, Ernest, John, Joseph, and Ben.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ada, MN on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 12:00 noon.

Visitation will be two hour before the service at the church.
