Anita Reyes, age 62, of Waubun, MN, died on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at her home.

Anita Stella, the daughter of Manuel and Mercedes (Emerson) Reyes, was born on May 18, 1960. She spent her younger years living in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, where she attended Adam's Elementary and later Phillip's High School. Over the years, Anita worked several jobs and made her homes in the Minneapolis, Cass Lake, MN, and in Mahnomen, MN, areas. While spending most of her life working as a blackjack dealer with Mystic Lake, Mille lacs, and Shooting Star Casinos, she also held other career paths throughout her life. She enjoyed being with people and joking around to make others smile. Anita was passionate, strong willed and had a hard work ethic. She followed the politics of tribal government and was vocal for what she believed in. She served with the Elders Commission and was an advocate for those in need. Anita always stood up for the underdog and used her voice for the good of her people. Anita also wrote short stories, liked to read, and loved her motorcycle. She was truly a loyal friend to the people she held closest to her heart.

Anita is survived by her brothers, Thomas of Ashland, WI, and Mark (Jenny) of Cass Lake, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and four siblings.

Funeral Services will be held at the Naytahwaush Sports Complex on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at 10:00 am. Visitation will begin Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 5:00 pm with a ceremony at 7:00 pm and continue until the funeral on Thursday.
