Alvina E. Stalboerger, age 90, of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly Waubun, MN, died Friday, April 5, 2019, in Detroit Lakes.

Alvina Eugenia Schonhardt was born to Edward and Crescentia (Ahles) Schonhardt on May 3, 1928, on a farm near Ogema, MN. Her youth was spent growing up on the farm attending country school and then school in Waubun after her parents purchased a farm near there.

On June 20, 1945, Alvina was united in marriage to Earl Stalboerger at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Waubun. In 1952, they purchased a dairy farm northeast of Waubun where they raised seven children. The farm was busy with tending to the cattle, grain harvest, and haying. Earl and Alvina's dedication to farming didn't go unnoticed as they were honored with the Mahnomen County Valley Farmer and Homemaker award in 1989. In addition to helping on the farm, Alvina also worked at Cedar Crest Resort for 21 years where she became a well-known and welcoming face to many. Earl died in 2002 and Alvina remained on the farm until she moved to Senior Community Living in Winchester in Detroit Lakes.

Alvina loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and a homemaker always allowing her good sense of humor to shine through. She enjoyed many pastimes including playing cards, putting together puzzles, and bird watching. Some of her many talents showed through in her ability to cook, quilt, knit, crochet, embroider and sew in general. Alvina also loved spending time outdoors gardening and doing lawncare. She was very active throughout the years in the Mahnomen County 4-H, as well as her bowling league and the Red Hat Ladies. Alvina's strong Christian faith was evident in her day to day living. She was an active member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Ladies Aid and the Catholic Society of Foresters. Her kind and gentle heart will be missed by all.

Alvina is survived by two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" (Kevin) Lindberg and Brenda (Tim) Zerr, both of Fargo, ND; three sons: Kenneth (Elta) Stalboerger of New London, MN, Denis (Karen) Stalboerger and Steven (Mary) Stalboerger both of Moorhead, MN; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Beatrice) Schonhardt of Bloomington, MN; and one sister, Alice Duchene of Detroit Lakes, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Rodney; one daughter, Renee; and two brothers, Harold and Alphie.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 13, at 10:00 am in St. Ann's Catholic Church, Waubun. Visitation will be Friday, April 12, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 pm at the church.
