Obituary

Alvin Scott, age 83 of Crookston, MN, formerly of Bejou, MN, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview, in Minneapolis, MN.

Alvin was born July 3, 1927 to Leo and Madeline (Villebrun) Scott in Bejou Township, Mahnomen County. He attended school in Bejou and as a young man worked for area farmers. He later moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, area and went to work for a well drilling company.

While in the Twin Cities, Alvin met Jacqueline Casey and they married on May 13, 1950. Alvin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. While serving in Korea his family moved from Texas back to Bejou. Following his honorable discharge, Alvin returned to Bejou, where he and Jackie raised eight children. He also worked for contractors as an equipment oiler and later as a heavy equipment operator. Alvin retired in 1990 and in 2002 moved to Crookston to be closer to his children. Sadly his wife, Jackie, of 52 years passed away December 28, 2002.

Alvin was a member of the Bejou VFW Wild Rice Post #1226, the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was also a lifelong member of the Forty-Niners (International Union of Operating Engineers-Local 49). Alvin's greatest pastimes included bird and deer hunting with his sons and playing cards with all of his children and grandchildren.

Surviving Alvin are his children: Leo, Bejou, MN, James (Debbie), Frazee, MN, Kathryn Hedlund, McIntosh, MN, William (Debra), St. Francis, MN, Wayne, Crookston, LeAnn (Mark) Halland, Crookston and Beverly Mazzucco, Crookston; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Lorraine Voeller, Hastings, MN and Lois Kaupang, Winger, MN.

In addition to his wife, Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis; granddaughter, Karen Quam; grandson, Jamie Scott; a great-granddaughter, Kassandra Hedlund; two brothers, Elmer and Hank Scott; seven sisters: Mabel Shasky, Rose Nelson, Leona Hoff, Sally Forsell, Josie Hagen, Verona Helling, and Elizabeth Scott.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February, 12, 2011 at 11 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bejou, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Bejou.
