Obituary

Alvin Crane, age 85, of Twin Valley, MN, died Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Twin Valley Living Center. Alvin Clifford Crane was born June 21, 1931, the son of Austin and Lillie (Askelson) Crane in Twin Valley where he grew up and attended country school. As a young man, Alvin farmed with his parents. Soon thereafter he moved to Montana where he enjoyed herding cattle on the open range. Out west he also worked construction on a dam as well as working for a time at a local funeral home. Alvin returned to the Twin Valley area and began farming near Gary, MN. On February 14, 1959, Alvin was united in marriage to Rebecca Larson at the Gary Lutheran Church. The couple made their home near Halstad, MN, while Alvin was employed for Sonny Warner helping with farming. In the mid-1960's, Alvin and Rebecca moved back to the Twin Valley community where Alvin was employed in the logging business. He later started a scrap iron business, was a junk dealer, and owned Crane's Wrecking. During that time Alvin also worked several beet campaigns for American Crystal Sugar. In the early 1990's, Alvin was employed for many years as a Custodian at the Twin Valley High School and later worked for a time at the Shooting Star Casino before his retirement. Alvin enjoyed being outdoors and especially liked fishing and trapping. More recently, he was often found simply watching the birds. Alvin loved to dance and would spin Becky around the dance floor whenever he was able. He was the proud recipient of the Twin Valley Centennial Whitest Beard Award and enjoyed the "olden day" re-enactment. Alvin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. He also liked to go the Casino and attend his grandchildren's events. Alvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca, of Twin Valley; sons, Kelly (Cora) Crane of Fargo, ND and Ricky Crane of Ada, MN; daughters, Tammy (Jim) Mohn of St. Paul, MN and Cindy (Jeff) Sele of Thief River Falls, MN; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Tilford (Ann) Crane of Gonvik, MN; a sister-in-law, Juleann (George) Ward of Dalton, GA; a brother-in-law, Mervyn (Betty) Larson, Sr., of Twin Valley, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Andy and Lawrence; and sisters: LuVina, Josie and Audrey.
