Alvida C. Omang, age 74, of Erskine, MN, died Monday, January 04, 2010 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.

Alvida Flakne was born September 16, 1935 in Mahnomen, MN, the daughter of Alfred and Clara (Hillestad) Flakne. She grew up attending the Oak Grove county school in Bear Park Township. Following her schooling, Alvida helped on the family farm. On October 27, 1956, Alvida was united in marriage to Kenneth Omang. The young couple traveled to Montana where she worked as a cook on a ranch and Kenneth worked in construction. They moved back to Winger, MN, for a few years before moving to the Mahnomen area. After farming for 12 years, Alvida and Kenneth returned to the Winger area in 1975. In 1996, she moved into the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, where she resided until her death.

Throughout the years, Alvida, spent her time helping Kenneth on the farm with the day to day chores, along with baking many breads, buns and cookies. She enjoyed tending to her large garden, often canning and freezing the many fruits of her labor. Other pastimes that kept Alvida busy included taking pictures, visiting with friends and family and crocheting many beautiful things. She spent many months organizing and assembling a family book for both sides of her family, a wonderful keepsake that will be treasured for many years to come.

Alvida is survived by four sons: Keith (Bonnie) Omang, Gillette, WY, Kevin (Becca) Omang, Austin, CO, Chris (Jody) Omang, West Fargo, ND, and Clinton (Susan) Omang, Snowmass Village, CO; a daughter, Phyllis (Randy Wright) Omang, Bemidji, MN; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Douglas (Virjean) Flakne, Amery, WI, and Norlien (Barbara) Flakne, Fertile, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Kenneth, in 2005.

Funeral Services were held on Friday, January 8, 2010 at 2 pm at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Visitation took place one hour prior to the service.
Burial was in Faaberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rindal, MN.
