Obituary

Alverta Bell, age 99, of Dallas, TX, died Monday, April 29, 2019, at her home.

Alverta Mae Bell, the daughter of Dan H. and Nettie (Terway) Darco, was born on March 28, 1920 in Beaulieu, MN.  She was raised on a farm east of Mahnomen, MN, where she attended school.  As an adventurous young woman, Alverta traveled with dear friends to the West Coast.  Her various journeys ultimately took her to spend time in La Crosse, WI, to visit her sister.  It was there, Alverta attended a dance where she met the love her life, Harold Bell.  The couple courted and were married on August 7, 1941.  While Harold served during WWII, Alverta stayed in Wisconsin and worked at "Gauge" factory making parts for the military.  Within a few years, their family grew with the birth of a son, Bruce, and a daughter, Sandra.  They lived for a short time in Dallas, TX, before moving to Northern Minnesota in 1951.  After spending many years in the Mahnomen area, in 1967, they returned to Dallas to make their home.  As a mother, a cosmetologist, and an entrepreneur, Alverta owned and operated her own beauty salons for nearly 40 years.  She proudly ran the "Cut & Curl" in Mahnomen and later "Little D" in Dallas until her retirement.  Since Harold's death in 1995, Alverta slowed a bit, but maintained her full life and positive attitude.  She especially treasured the past 10 years in which, with the help of her family, Alverta was able to stay in her own home.

Alverta was a devote Catholic and her faith was an iatrical part of her life.  She absolutely loved music and had watched almost every 1950's big band perform live.  Of course, Alverta was also an avid Elvis fan.  She and Harold were accomplished dancers and were often found twirling on the dance floor.  Alverta took solace in the music, whether swinging to the beat or humming along with the melody, it brought her happiness.  Alverta also enjoyed her travels with Harold, most notable their cruise, and trips to Greece and Germany.  Alverta was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother whose tender smile, loving heart, and years of knowledge will be greatly missed.

Alverta is survived by her children: Bruce Bell of Palmetto, FL, and Sandra (Dale) Fowler of Dallas; four grandsons: Tracy Fowler, Shawn Fowler and Scott Fowler, and Ryan Blu Beacham; ten great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren: her brother, Everett (Gloria) Darco of Mahnomen; sister-in-law, JoAnn Darco, of Dent, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; sisters, Ruby LaVoy and Hazel Garland; three brothers, Jay, Kenneth, and Lester; daughter-in-law, Kathy; and one great grandson.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Beaulieu, MN.  Visitation will take place at the Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN, on Friday, May 3, 2019, from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
