Alton L. Torkelson, 94, Ada, MN, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2010, at Bridges Care Community, Ada, MN.
Alton Torkelson was born Dec. 27, 1915, the son of Tubal and Sophie (Abrahamson) Torkelson, at home near Shelly, MN. He grew up near Shelly and attended country school. As a young man, Alton enjoyed earning extra money by trapping near the farm. After his schooling he started working with his family on the farm. He later worked in construction. Alton was united in marriage to Rhoda Riggers on July 12, 1953, in Lockhart, MN. They resided in rural Shelly until they started their family in 1954 and moved to rural Hendrum, MN. They later moved to Lockhart before they settled in Ada where he has resided since.
Alton had worked for the Climax, MN, school, Johnson Farms near Ada, and Felske-Erickson Farms, near Lockhart, before retiring. He enjoyed staying active in mechanical work, tinkering with woodworking, fishing, and his gardens. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Crookston, MN.
Alton is survived by three sons: Robert (Anita), Hendrum, MN, Stewart, Ada, MN, Bruce (Debbie Linder), Twin Valley, MN, five grandchildren: Michael, Amanda, Jeremiah, Joe, and Kay, one sister, Stella Hess, Phoenix, AZ, and several nieces and nephews. Alton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rhoda, and one sister, Theone Opdahl.
Funeral: 11:00AM, Friday, October 15, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: 5:00 -7:00 PM on Thursday, with a Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada, MN.
Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada.
