Watch Allen's Memorial Service

Allen R. Korinta Sr., age 71, of Ogema, MN, passed away on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at his residence.

Allen Rudolph Korinta was born on August 7, 1950, to Raymond and Alice (Weum) Korinta in Mahnomen, MN. He grew up in Ogema, MN, and graduated with the class of 1969 from Waubun High School. Following his graduation, he attended Dunwoody Industrial Institute in Minneapolis, MN. Just short of graduating, Allen was drafted into the United States Army on Christmas Day in 1970. On April 17, 1971, Allen was united in marriage to Barbara Allen. While Allen served in the Army, the couple was stationed in various places, both in the United States and overseas. Much of their time was spent in Western Europe where they began their family of four sons. Allen honorably served for 22 years and retired as a First Sergeant in 1993. Following his retirement from the military, Allen helped Jim Jirava on his farm for 10 years. Barb passed away on October 31, 2011. Allen began working at the Shooting Star Casino as a cashier supervisor, where he met Hope Weed and the couple was united in marriage on August 8, 2012, in Mobridge, SD. Hope passed away January 3, 2014. Allen was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and his failing health forced him to retire.

Allen never let his hands be idle. He spent his time outdoors caring for his yard, and flower gardens, deer hunting, and fishing. Allen loved to play cards, especially pinochle. He had a friendly, laidback personality and always enjoyed a good joke, especially teasing his loved ones. Allen was a former commander and lifetime member of the Ogema VFW Post #9880 and a member of the Detroit Lakes American Legion Post #15 and the NRA Golden Eagles.

Allen is survived by his four sons: Allen Jr. (Cheryl) Korinta, Michael (Jennifer) Korinta, Edward "Joey" Korinta, and Wilbert "Willy" Korinta; five grandchildren: Timothy, Barrett, Brogan, Chase, and Kyrie Anne; sisters, Donna (Don) Engle and Lois (Dale) Burfield; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Barbara and Hope; and siblings, Raymond Korinta and Joyce Jelle.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with a time of gathering one hour before, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Mahnomen, MN.
