Obituary

Allen W. Seeger, age 82, of rural Mahnomen, MN, went to his eternal home, Friday, November 20, 2009, in the Palliative Care Unit at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND surrounded by his family.

Allen William Seeger was born Aug. 20, 1927 on the family farm in Flom Township, east of Twin Valley, MN, the son of William and Alice (Schow) Seeger. He was raised on the farm with his family and attended the Banner Country School. Allen attended Twin Valley High School for 3 ½ years and after contracting polio he needed to transfer to Waubun High School where he graduated with the class of 1946. While in high school he excelled in sports and placed in the 440 at the state track meet. On Sept. 18, 1949 Allen was united in marriage to Marion Stene at St. Olaf Lutheran Church east of Twin Valley where they have remained faithful members. They made their home in Minneapolis for several years where he worked in the construction field building homes and later radar sites. In 1957, Allen and Marion, along with their new family, returned to Flom Township and purchased the home farm. Together they made their home, raised their family and operated the farm for many years. Their son, Mark, later took over the farming operation, with grandson, Travis presently in that process. Allen stayed active on the home place and was always helping whenever and wherever he was needed.

Allen loved farming and had the ability to fix almost anything, on or off the farm. He also loved music, which he shared with his family, gardening, fishing and painting. He enjoyed traveling and he and Marion had spent several winters in Arizona. But most of all he was a Christian family man who cared for, guided and protected his family.

He was active in his church and community. While living in Minneapolis, Allen helped out with the Boy Scouts. He had served on the Lutheran Memorial Nursing Home board in Twin Valley for several years, the Norman County Draft board and had held several offices at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Marion, Mahnomen, MN; two daughters, Susan (Ted) Helms, and Nancy (Dale) Gunderson all of Moorhead, MN; one son, Mark (Cindy) Seeger, Twin Valley; one brother, Duane, Mahnomen; a brother-in-law, John Hanson, Detroit Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren, and one great grandson. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, three brothers, two sisters, one brother-in-law, and one grandchild.
