Allen L. Dahl, 79, Detroit Lakes and rural Borup, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Allen Lester Dahl was born February 11, 1937, in Ada, MN, the son of Anton and Ella (Rage) Dahl. He grew up on a farm near Borup and graduated from Borup High School in 1955. He enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Chaffee, AR. He also served for 2 years in Germany before his honorable discharge in July of 1957.
Allen met a girl from Hitterdal named Naomi Tatley and they were united in marriage on May 31, 1958, at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal. They moved into the Dahl family farm, near Borup, where they would reside for 58 years. Allen was a good steward of the land and protector of the soil. He knew the value of planting trees and always enjoyed the vegetables from the garden. He was gifted mechanically and would go out of his way helping others in need. When time allowed, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing trips, as well as many area auction sales with family and friends.
Allen suffered a stroke in 1998 and worked tirelessly with Naomi's help through many hours of therapy. He was determined to improve and be home on the farm. Many healthcare providers from the Fargo VA, Sanford Health, and Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home cared for Allen over the last months and years.
Allen is survived by his wife, Naomi, his children; Neil of Moorhead, MN, Scott (Susan), Fisher, MN, Wayne (Connie), Wolf Point, MT, and Valerie, of New Hope, MN, a brother, Gerald (Jewel) of Felton, MN, a sister, Elaine (Paul) Gustafson, Rochester, MN, a brother-in-law, Kenneth Hviding, Shoreveiw, MN, a sister-in-law, Doris Dahl, Borup, MN, 4 grandchildren, LaRae, Christina, Lindsey, and Sarah, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Leland and David, and two sisters, Laverne Dahl Hviding and Dorothy Mae Dahl.
Funeral: 1:30PM Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.
Visitation: 12 Noon to 1:30PM Wednesday at the church.
Burial: Jevnaker Cemetery, rural Borup, MN.
