Alfred B. Prestegord's Obituary
Alfred B. Prestegord, 86, Twin Valley, Minnesota died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 in the Twin Valley Living Center.
Alfred B. Prestegord was born December 6, 1924 to Severt and Borghild (Bottolfs) Prestegord on the family farm east of Twin Valley, MN. He was raised on the farm and attended school near Fossum, MN. Alfred was baptized and confirmed in his faith at the Wild Rice Lutheran Church. As a young man, he worked for area farmers before entering the United States Navy during World War II. While in the Navy, he served in the Pacific Theater near Guam. After his discharge, he began working in the construction field as a painter. In 1945 Alfred was united in marriage to Betty E. Carlson in Tacoma, Washington. They made their home in several communities throughout Minnesota and Washington. In the early 1980's, he moved back to the Twin Valley community, where he has lived since. In the past few years, he lived in the Twin Valley Living Center.
Alfred loved horses, horse shows which he often took part in, and rodeos. He could be seen in the summer riding in area parades either in his buggy or on horseback. He was a longtime member of the Twin Valley Rider's club.
Alfred is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Lee) Grimes, Centralia, Washington and Arlene (Don ) Roberts, Chehalis, Washington, one son Wayne (Eileen) Prestegord, Onalaska, Washington, one sister Hilda Grove, Twin Valley, one brother, Martin Prestegord of Twin Valley, 5 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, two brothers, Lars and Arnold, two sisters, Lenora and Selma.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July, 5th in the Wild Rice Lutheran Church, rural Twin Valley at 11:00am. Visitation was one hour before services at the church. Officiating was Pastor Anne Pairan. Music was provided by Jolee Habedank and Bob Brevik. Pallbearers were Vernon Prestegord, JR Prestegord, Steve Prestegord, Jason Roberts, Conner Roberts, Lynn Weium, and Sheldon Johnson. Interment was in the Wild Rice Lutheran Cemetery with full military honors.
