Obituary

Aldus "A.C." Heiraas, age 85, of Borup, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 10, 2009, in his home.

Adlus Carlton Heiraas was born October 13, 1923, the son of Carl and Inga (Bjerke) near Borup where he grew up and attended country school. Aldus is a life long member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed his faith. As a young man, A.C. worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Navy. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II. After his honorable discharge, A.C. returned to the area. On January 24, 1948, Aldus was united in marriage to LaVerne Winstryg in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The couple made their home in Ulen, Minnesota for two years while he owned a trucking business hauling for area farmers. He then began farming with his brother, Donald, for a time. A.C. later managed the dairy farm with his son, Al, switching over to beef cattle in the mid 60's, until retiring about nine years ago. At that time, he rented his farmland to his grandchildren, Daryl and Danita Moore. He continued to live on the farm enjoying his draft horses until the time of his death.

When his children were younger, Aldus was a school board member in Ulen for several years. He truly enjoyed his farming years, but he especially loved his draft horses. Aldus used them as a chore team on the farm and took great pride showing them in area parades.

Aldus is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaVerne "Lynn" of Ulen, MN; a son, Al (Donna) Heiraas of Twin Valley, MN; two daughters, Deborah (Jonathan) Overland of Calgary, Canada and Dawana (Roger) Sorensen of Ulen, MN; three sisters: Ordella Eastvold of Glyndon, MN, Marcy (Earl) Hillstead of Hitterdal, MN, and Melva Flesjer of WA; 11 grandchildren: Anthony Heiraas, LaShawn Yarbrough, Londa Antoine, Andrew Heiraas, Lana Lappi, Laura Bergren, Shannon Erickson, Joshua Overland, Jeremiah Overland, Danita Moore, Roy Sorensen, Rodney Sorensen and Diana Bolton; 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, and an infant grand-daughter, Jennifer Overland.
